The McGurk effect

What you see is what you hear, even if you should hear something else.

Huh?

This is the McGurk effect.

Our brain processes a multitude of impressions of the various sensory organs and must reconcile the data with each other. A fascinating phenomenon is that McGurk effect, in which - unfortunately only in English - Video is made clear. This scientist says "Bah, Bah, Bah." Then the image of the video is modified, and his lips move as if they were "Fah, Fah, Fah" say and although the sound remains the same, just "Bah, Bah, Bah "we hear" Fah, Fah, Fah.

The visual stimulus is therefore placed higher.

Try it out yourself. Simply madness, and no matter how vividly ;-)
